Today, Supernutz returned to the US for the winter break. The team will not be racing in any more races in season 19, but will rest and prepare for season 20.
The year's goals were to stay in at least division 4, participate in a tour, place in the top9 in a tour, place in the top three of a young jersey classification, and get a podium finish in a classic.
Supernutz met and exceeded these goals handily. Wesley Meadows emerged as the undisputed captain of the team. Perry Farmer, after a second place in the Fort Collins race, moved to the role of primary domestique, and credit should be given to him as an extremely talented workhorse. Without his efforts, Meadows would not be anywhere near as succesful.
Meadows first finished second in the Yarmouth GP, before preparing for the Monte Rosa tour. The early stages were rough (particularly the time-trial), but Meadows came good in stage 4 (the stage before the King stage), grabbing a podium finish. His performance on the king stage was sufficient to ensure a second place in the youth classification of the tour, and to set the old riders and teams on notice. Here was a tour rider of note!
After recovering from the tour, Supernutz was entered into the climbing classic, Criterium la Grasse...which Meadows won easily. Dominating the stage. This win vaulted the team into the rarified heights of division 3, which hadn't been seen since the end of season 18. It also allowed entry into the Race of the Minutemen...held on home soil.
Despite failing to reach the podium in ANY of the races, Wesley Meadows easily clinched the young classification, and Supernutz' first palmares! He also finished just shy of a podium finish in the GC, missing out by less than a second.
Meadows then rounded out the season with a first place performance in Italy on the road from Chieti to Blockhaus.
It is rumored that Meadows has been visiting a time-trial center in England, and that he plans to return to either Monte Rosa or Race of the Minutemen and vie for a spot on the GC podium. Manager MacNab also has stated that his goal this season is also to develop a third trained rider for the squad.
"I am sure that the Supernutz boys will give me reason for pride in season 20..."
